How to choose a right GIS app for BI data preparation?

Back in 1989 I first met ArcINFO, and then I started to use them.

In 1992 I started working as a partner of Bentley Systems and Intergraph, and using their GIS applications, and in 2004. started working as an Autodesk Partner.


LODs are demanding calculations in BI, but LOD is also very important as a segment in the preparation of GIS data.

Let’s look at an example:

Standard GIS problem

Each person has their own address, and since their location is the same, we have as many point views in the same place as we have people, although only one point is visible.


Standard GIS assignment:
Each building should be connected to the people who live in it and count the number of people. Furthermore, it is necessary to find out how many men and how many women live in Zone 1. In which homes do preschool children live?
This is a task that every GIS tool must solve.
It is much better to handle these operations by transferring attributes to the Address, Building and Zone tables, than to use processor-intensive spatial operations on the elements!

I will describe the process in detail in the next post.


Let’s move on to GIS tools. It cannot be denied that ESRI and Hexagon are leaders, but there are other tools.

ESRI ArcGIS

GeoMedia’s functionality makes it ideal for extracting information from an array of dynamically changing data to support making informed, smarter decisions.

Maptitude
Maptitude GIS and mapping software gives you the tools, maps, and data you need to analyze and understand how geography affects you and your organization. Maptitude is the most capable, and least expensive, full-featured mapping software available.
What i like most about this software are spatial analysis tools and easy map creation including 3D visualization.

QGIS
QGIS is a open source GIS tool that provides capabilities and tools to help you visualize, manage, edit, analyze data and compose printable maps. It has a lot of plugins, and can help you to solve almost all problems. The most important is that is free!

Manifold
Manifold System is a single, integrated product that provides three major classes of GIS functionality in a single package: as a desktop application, as an objects library for programmers and as an Internet Map Server for web applications (all versions except Personal Edition include IMS).

It is my favorite! It’s just a much simpler software than ArcGIS and definitely not as buggy. I like that maps and data is saved within the file, unlike ArcGIS. Easy mapping, Memory usage is low and probably the best part about it is the low cost. Support CUDA (important for AI). Nice functions for data manipulation, aggregation including topology tools.
